I am decorating my house

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I am decorating my house at the moment and am thinking of getting new carpets everywhere as removing the furniture has really shown up the dirt on the floors! We are going to have someone in to do some quotes for us so that we can get an idea of cost. One thing that concerns me about getting new flooring is that certain parts are likley to wear out more quickly than others. I have been looking at getting some chair mats so that the carpets can be protected. I am especially concerned about the chairs at the desks because they have wheels and I think the fact that they will be moving back and forth all of the time will mean that there will be lots of wear on the carpet.

I hope that I can find a nice chair mat so that I can put it under the office chair and it will blend in with the room but still protect the carpet. I also need something which is the right size for the little floor space that we have in there as well as being safe with the chair that we have. I should be able to find a good computer chair mat for that purpose hopefully.

Window Replacement

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I am looking for a window replacement Utah company at the moment. My windows are really draughty and so I want some mew ones. They have wooden frames and are about twenty years old and they have warped over the years. This means that when it is breezy or cold, the draught blows through the house. The front door and back door are draughty and they are opposite each other which means there is a through draught. On the first floor there are French doors opposite each other and we get the same problem with draughts. Then the main bedroom has the same type of draughty door.

The glass in a lot of the windows has blown meaning that it steams up between the pains of glass so they look dirty all of the time. I want to do some major renovations in the house and this Utah replacement windows will be the first part of the job. Hopefully it will save us some money on our heating bills as well. We are hoping that getting some new doors will smarten up the front of the house and the garden too. We are not supposed to change the front of the house so we may not be able to change the front door but hopefully might be able to find one that looks the same but is plastic and therefore not so draughty.

Wedding Table Decorations

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I am trying to decide on table decorations for my friend’s wedding. She has asked me to look into it for her as she is very busy with everything else. I have been looking at the traditional gift boxes for favors but I am wondering whether to do something a bit different. The flowers are already organised as well as the place cards so really this is the only feature of the table that has not be sorted out. I know that she has chosen some special heart shaped truffles for the guests and so I have been looking at cellophane bags but some of them are really just too plain. It is hard to find any that really match in with her decorations. I am therefore looking for something a bit different. I have wondered about just using a see through bag and tying it with pretty curling ribbon but I think that may look a bit cheap. Thankfully I have come across some very pretty candy bags which match in with her colour scheme and are not too expensive. I think they will be ideal so I will show them to her when I see her later and see what she thinks.

Doors are the windows into your home. They are the portals that lead your guests into your humble abode. They are just as much a part of your home as any of your other furniture. This means that you should really think about what you want when it comes to picking your doors.

The first thing to consider is what you want for your exterior doors. These are very important. They need to be strong enough to protect your home from the elements but decorative enough to match the look and feel of your house. This isn’t that hard to do for the most part. There are plenty of doors available and most houses don’t need anything that is truly elaborate. You can just pick something that is tasteful and sturdy, and it will be just fine.

Interior doors are a bit of a different story. You need to ensure that they will grant the proper privacy and that they match your interior décor. Privacy is a bit of an important thing to remember when it comes to getting a good door. You will want something solid that will limit noise and securely seal off the bedrooms and bathrooms. Anything else will get really annoying fast.

These are just a few of the basics that you’ll need to know when it comes to picking out your doors. Keep them in mind and try to find something that is great for you.

Be In Control with Your Own Stuff

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

If you want to be in control with your own things, you have to know where they are located and how they are well placed inside a room. In your bathroom, you can make use of a bathroom organizer where you can put all your towels, under wear and etc. in it. Through this bathroom organizer, you will not have to go outside your bathroom and wet your entire floor with excess water from your body. Another thing that you can use inside your bathroom is a wall spice rack, quite surprising? Yes, you can make use of a wall spice rack by putting your toothbrush and toothpaste on it.

See? You just have to be imaginative to play around with your interior design. Another thing that comes from the kitchen and can be used inside the bathroom is a hanging spice rack. You can actually make use of it by putting some fresh flowers or plants in it. Through this, it will make you bathe more and more giving a natured feel inside your own bathroom, especially when looking up on your hanging spice rack. Undoubtedly, you can play with your imagination to give your bathroom a twist of design that you will surely love.

What security measures should be taken on the bus now

Monday, August 4th, 2008

the drivers should be issued AK47’s

——

Why should they do anything? Murders such as this are, thankfully, incredibly rare, and you can’t realistically legislate against the occasional lone nutcase who decides to kill someone. I’m sure if he hadn’t been able to do it on a bus, he would have done it somewhere els

Plasterboard wall’s, any tips on making the walls smooth (UK)

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Thinking about redecorating our spare room later this year and would like a few diy tips about our plasterboard walls.

Have always papered our internal walls due to plasterboard not being completly smooth,

This time i would like to paint only the wall’s but need to get the walls in a good smooth condition, what products could i use as a diy’er to lightly skim any rough area’s of the wall’s to a good standard.

Why have you got such rough walls?Has the old wallpaper been stripped and taken the plasterboard surface off? If it`s just a case of getting a few dents out, then Steve has the right idea, filling and sanding.Something else you could try is a product called Dulux Flexicoat. You first brush some on any slight dents or cracks, then apply a coat over the whole wall with a roller.I`ve found it very useful for walls and ceilings with lots of small dents and cracks `cos there`s always the odd 1 or 2 that you miss and don`t find out till you`ve put the paint on!

What types of things do you (personally & specifically) use baking soda for, besides cooking?

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

I’m going to start using baking soda more often, like for cleaning the house, handwashing clothes, taking a bath, use for heartburn, etc.

I keep a contain in my shop to neutralize battery acid if it gets spilled accidentally. I actually saved someone from what could have been a serious acid burn one because I had a box right there.
I also use it as a deodorant in the fridge, and will pour some down the drain (if it stinks) or in my boat’s bilge (when it stinks).
Amazingly it also puts out fires. My mother was cooking bacon and had a grease fire. I dumped a box of it on the fire because I know you can’t use water, and the baking soda was closer than the fire extinghisher.

—-

I used to use it to power my Kelloggs Submarine that I ordered and got in the mail.
It is a good mild abrasive for polishing clear plastic screens like motorcycle helmets and watch crystals.
Mixing it with hydrogen peroxide and painting it around your mouth is good for costumes requiring a foaming mouth such as a rabid dog might have
Good when used to dust out old tennis shoes to remove foot oders.

Spilled bong water on the carpet, Dont have a carpet cleane. How long do I have before it sits? What do I not?

Will it come out?

I’m not sure what your rug fiber is made of, wool etc. But there is a rug guide that will help with many different types of stains on your carpet.

Spot Cleaning
No rug is stain proof. Regardless of whether your rug is made of wool or prolypropylene, it is important to respond quickly to spills. However, if you own a wool rug you need to make sure the cleaning product you use is wool safe.

Wools of New Zealand, a marketing organization that promotes the use of New Zealand wool, provides the following expert advice on cleaning wool rugs. These steps also work well on rugs of other fibers.

Blot up liquids with white paper towels or absorbent cloth; scoop up solids with the end of a knife or spoon.
Treat the spot according to the cleaning instruction chart below.
Apply spot removal agent to clean towel or cloth, not directly to the spot. Use small quantities at a time. Always work inwards from the edge to prevent spreading. Do not rub, as this may cause the spot to spread or distort the pile. Do not over-wet the carpet pile.
Afterwards, blot as dry as possible with clean towel

Warnings

Some chemicals are hazardous (corrosive, flammable, toxic, etc.) and should be used with great care, strictly in accordance with their use and safety instructions.

DO NOT apply stain repellent treatments that contain any silicone because they tend to accelerate rug soiling.

Always pre-test a cleaning agent in an inconspicuous place, such as under a piece of furniture or in the corner of the room, to insure that it does not remove color.

How do you unclog an upstairs bathtub drain?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I tried plunging, but it didn’t work. there is nothing visible and I’ve inserted a snake at least six feet into drain with no luck

When you tried the plunger, did you have somebody cover the overflow opening?

Your drainage assembly has two openings, the one that’s at the bottom of the tub where you pull the plug & watch your water run out. And another located about 12 - 16″ above the normal drain, there’s an overflow opening that probably has a decorative circular “cap” that hides the overflow opening. This opening is located on the bottom of that cap. The function of the overflow is exactly what it’s name says. In case you’ve run the bathwater too high the water will drain through this overflow.

When you first used the plunger on your clog, if the overflow isen’t covered (with like your helpers hand) the plungers suction is going to draw air right through the overflow. Find where the overflow is (located between the faucet opening & drain), cover it and try the plunger again.

If that doesn’t work, hopefully you live in a state where the plumbing code requires an access panel to your bathtubs shower valve & trap. If you can get at the trap, remove it and empty the contents. If nothing is in the trap, you’ve at least given yourself perfect access to run your snake again.

If that doesn’t work, try to find the cleanout opening of the stack that the tub drains into. Open the cleanout & run the snake through that. If that still doesn’t work, get ready to write a big check and call a plumber.
